This page is still under
construction but in the meantime I will just post an article that has
been written about the wine made from this vineyard:
2000 WALKER STATION RRV CHARDONNAY
With a clear conscience, I can honestly say
"Chardonnay doesn't get any better than this!"
This Chardonnay vineyard nestles in the hills of Green
Valley, a micro appellation of the Russian River Valley, and home to
such notables as Kistler and Marimar Torres. The vineyard is planted
to old vente select Clone
on a southwestern exposure hillside, with Blucher gravelly clay loam.
The grapes are gently harvested in small cluster selections, and yield
only 2 tons per acre. Cool summer weather in the Green Valley contributed
to a long growing season, producing excellent flavor retention in the
fruit, with high acidity and low pH. The warm Indian summer allowed
for an extended hang time to fully ripen the fruit and optimize maturity.
The wine was barrel fermented with indigenous yeast (7 months), and
went through native malolactic fermentation in barrels. Barrel aged
14 months in 75 % new French Oak, sur lies and stirred, then bottled
unfined and unfiltered.
This very stylish, elegant Chardonnay is distinguished by the distinctly
layered character of the fruit, and rich viscosity that hangs on the
glass. Aromas of mandarin orange, honey- suckle, and gardenia petal
mix with the enticing notes of fresh baked apple, vibrant pineapple
and coconut. On the palate the wine mellifluously reveals its lively,
full-bodied nature: rich, luxurious, and seamless. Vibrant citrus flavors
and a touch of vanilla remain as the flavors that linger on the finish!
. . . From the deep golden color as it pours, to the long rich finish
on the palate, there isn't a single flaw!!
